SFB 1112 Disciplinary Forum

Even though the  SFB 1112 is interdisciplinary, it is required that each field, represented by the project areas A, B, and C convenes once per term ("semester") in order to discuss disciplinary topics of current interest in depth on the highest level. This follows the general idea pursued at Freie Universität Berlin that disciplinary competence is the foundation of interdisciplinary research. Items to be discussed may include recent work found in the literature, ongoing discussions of specific topics which are of disciplinary interest, as well as recent and important results from the CRC. The Disciplinary Forum of the Integrated Research Training Group is organized by the spokespersons of the project areas A, B, and C together with the PI of the projects, doctoral students, and post-docs.

A: Synthesis, Drug Uptake, and Labelling
B: Physical Diagnostics and Numerical Models
C: Nanopharmacology and Dermatology, including Toxicology (Project Z01)

Participation is compulsory during all three years of the doctoral studies. In total, 3 CP need to be achieved (3 SWS, i.e. attendance of at least 6 disciplinary forums). The members of the training group may choose the disciplinary forum, according to their research interests, with the limitation that disciplinary forum of the project area where the research project is tied to must be visited at least twice during three years. Active participation (i.e. presentation of results, experience from the bench etc. from the respective dissertation or post-doc project) in each disciplinary forum is awarded with 0.5 CP. Passive participation will gain 0.25 CP. The respective main topic and list of speakers are determined by an organizing team of prinicipal investigators from each project area. Active participation at specific disciplinary events can also be determined within the "Betreuungsvereinbarung" (Supervisor Agreement) by the respective mentoring team of  the PhD-students.

Due to the start of SFB 1112 within the current Winter Term 2013/14, the first disciplinary forum events will be offered in the Summer Term 2014.
